DAVID MARCHANT: PSYCHOPATH IN DISGUISE OF A JOURNALIST

INTRODUCTION

In today’s world, journalism is open to almost everyone. The amount of money that can be earned from online blogs has pushed many into finding a place in journalism even when they are not professionally qualified. No wonder there is an increase in the circulation of fake news.

Recent activities have shown that there is even a psychopath that is portraying himself as a journalist in the United States. This so-called journalist is Mr. David Marchant. He is the founder, editor, and sole shareholder of OffshoreAlert.

Just like you might have a passion for sports, music, or writing, Marchant has a passion for collapsing successful businesses, ruining the reputation of the business owners, and profiting from the fall of these businesses. At the end of each working day, instead of counting how he had contributed to humanity, he counts how many enemies he had made and how many businesses he had damaged.

This article discusses some reasons why Marchant decided to go into journalism and why reading his newsletters could be dangerous.

REASONS TO AVOID OFFSHOREALERT

Money comes before truth

During a radio interview with Chancery Lane Chats, David Marchant admitted that although he had no business training, he saw the “imbalance between demand and supply” of news from the offshore world. He admitted that he saw it as a “money-making opportunity” and that he started OffshoreAlert because he wanted to make money and “improve his lots in life.”

It is perfectly fine to want to make money from journalism. After all, we all work to make money. But there is something worth taking note of in Marchant’s admission. He never said he had a passion for the job or he was doing this to save people from frauds. Making money is the reason behind all of his attacks while he disguises himself as a journalist. If that is the case, do you think a man that places money ahead in cases of fraud should be trusted? Don’t you think that when there are no cases of fraud, he could come up with some? No wonder Marchant sees frauds in places where there are not.

OffshoreAlert is on a Revenge Mission

In the same interview, Marchant revealed another reason for his offshorealert. He said (unintentionally, I guess) that apart from making money, he started OffshoreAlert because He wanted “revenge.” Revenge for what? In the early 90s, David Marchant worked in Bermuda before his license was revoked in 1996. He felt there was a need to revenge against the offshore companies he was writing about while in Bermuda because (according to him) they were responsible for his downfall. He felt they were behind his ordeal and he need to fight them in a way that appears legal.

Do you think a man that started journalism because of some persons or companies will ever be fair to them? Definitely not. Mr. Marchant started his journalism based on sentiment and you can see that in his news, he is biased and he deliberately misrepresents some companies to promote others. His goal is to carry out the revenge mission till the very end. That is exactly the reason why he always makes mention of Bermuda in his newsletters. He hates the millionaires there.

The Sponsors of OffshoreAlert are the Saints

The sponsors of offshoreAlert alone are enough reason to discredit whatever news coming from David Marchant. He has a commercial relationship with big offshore companies. These companies pay heavily to sponsor his events. In exposing fraud, one cannot be romancing the very same people he is trying to expose, but that is the case with Marchant. During the interview, Marchant was asked how he manages to accept sponsorship from big offshore companies and at the same time continue to uncover their wrongdoings and illegal actions. Mr. Marchant responded as follows;

“Our clients are sophisticated. We cover high-value cross-border finance. And I think sophisticated people are more inclined to accept the fact that we are an independent company, we are a news organisation, and first and foremost, that also holds conferences.”

Marchant could not deny the fact that he is accepting a huge amount of money from big offshore companies to sponsor his events. He, therefore, claims that his “clients are sophisticated.” That must be a joke. It is like saying I am a journalist that accepts money from democrats to reveal the truth about politics in the United States, and then claiming that the democrats are highly sophisticated people. Journalists will only be fair if they do not accept money from the very people they are met to investigate.

Who are these sponsors of OffshoreAlert? Okke, an official of an offshore company that was attacked by Marchant stated that;

“Mr. Marchant… is being financed by one of our offshore competitors to attack other offshore businesses like ours.”

The sponsors of Marchant are not independent companies but they are competitors who try to discredit other companies so that they can appear as holy offshore companies. They are the fraudulent companies but they have Marchant to protect their image by diverting attention to other companies.

To date, there is no record that Marchant has investigated and written a negative newsletter about any of his sponsors nor has he cut ties with his sponsors because of cases of fraud. They are the saints of the offshore world because they have paid to cover their atrocities.

Fraudulent Attorneys at OffshoreAlert conferences

While explaining what to expect from the 2019 OffshoreAlert Europe conference held in London, Tanner De Witt Solicitors mentioned on their website that one of the issues to be discussed was “Ways to identify fraud and legally profit from it.” The word ‘legally’ was added to the statement to portray the conference in a good light. But come to think of it, is there a legal way to PROFIT from fraud without actually committing fraud? It is nothing like helping victims of fraud to recover their assets because if that was the case, ‘profit’ will not have been there.

That gives us the primary reason for Marchant’s conferences. Marchant and his crew are only looking for ways to discredit individuals and businesses for their financial benefits, and they use like-minded greedy attorneys who also benefit from the proceeds of defamation to cover their footsteps. What a smart move.

Marchant is scared of Courts

Nothing scares Marchant like appearing before a court. But smart Marchant does not want you to know this. During the interview with Chancery Lane Chats, Marchant made the following statement;

“I had to earn my spurs, I had to make people afraid to sue me. And you’ve got to go through the battles to earn that fear.”

Marchant knows that there is no way his yellow journalism can be sustained if he is consistently charged to court to defend the lies he is publishing. To avoid these cases, especially outside the United States, he had devised a means of scaring people from suing him. How does he achieve this? He answered that when he said;

“But if crooks want to cause me problems, then I have a few surprises in store for them.  I’m smarter than they are.  I’m more aggressive than they are.  They can’t defeat me. That’s my mentality.”

Marchant wants to have the monopoly of causing problems. Anyone asking questions about the problems he had caused is considered a threat and needs to be stopped even if it means being aggressive. Check out how he was described by Ronald Chapman, a Canadian based lawyer who handled a case that involved David Marchant;

“The defendants’ conduct has been vicious, outrageous, and high-handed.”

No doubt, Marchant can do all it takes to avoid being sued but when eventually sued, all he does is distract and frustrate the entire process. Maybe that is among the “few surprises” he has in store.

David is a blackmailer

Marchant had admitted that he never rectifies or delete his articles. Even after his victims have been cleared of the cases he accused them of, the stories are still on his website, and they will continue to be there for years. Why is that so? This is because if the story remains there, it will bring in money from subscribers. Marchant’s love for money is so strong that such news will only be brought down if it is profitable. One of Marchant’s victim disclosed that his reputation and that of his company was intentionally destroyed. What happened next might surprise you. The following was what the victim disclosed;

“…I had to try to find a solution through my legal managers, which contacted them to withdraw the accusations of his web and they undertook to delete such criticism in exchange for money.”

Can you see the traits of a blackmailer? He knows how important a good reputation is to a business and that is what he targets. He knows very well that even if all the companies he had written about did not come up with a bribe to save their reputation, a few will fall into this trap.

Sometimes, these blackmailed individuals and companies make the mistake of going to OffshoreAlert page to explain their sides of the story. For Marchant, that is an abomination. The victim who was asked by OffshoreAlert to pay money went ahead to defend himself on their page several times, and after various attempts, he disclosed that;

“Another issue of this web page is that when a user wants to go and defend his accusations and slander, the page blocks these comments. Paying only is the way to avoid it.”

That is not surprising because Marchant had said before, “if crooks want to cause me problems, then I have a few surprises in store for them.  I’m smarter than they are.”  He is sure very smart and he is doing all he could to ruin people’s businesses while he fights to keep making money from the ruined businesses.

Marchant does not have the confidence to disclose his sources of information

Marchant is the sole shareholder of OffshoreAlert. He is the publisher, editor, investigator, and the god of OffshoreAlert. You might wonder, apart from OffshorAalert, why are no other news agencies, journalists, police, and other law enforcement agencies aware of the crimes being published by Marchant? Marchant’s newsletters are unverifiable. During the interview with Chancery Lane Chats, Marchant admitted that despite being “ordered by the judge”, he could not state the sources of his information. He was ready to go to jail rather than the state where he got his information.

Why did Marchant refuse to state the source of his information? Another victim of Marchant stated the following;

“I feel strongly that you should search your own soul because the only frauds being committed are by your publication (if you can call it that), by your vicious guesses and insinuations, by your sponsors, and the fact that you are being paid so little to prostitute your editorial integrity.”

There is no better way to describe Marchant’s publications better than “guesses” and “insinuations.” How can you disclose the sources of guesses and insinuations? There is absolutely no way. That is exactly why Marchant cannot state the sources of his lies.

Conclusion

Marchant has chosen a career for himself, a career of lies in disguise of journalism, a career of defamation in the name of exposing fraud, and a career where making enemies and ruining businesses are counted as achievements. Marchant will never stop publishing more lies, but the question is will you continue to believe him? That is your decision to make. However, you need to keep in mind that it is very dangerous to accept news coming from just one source without doing an independent investigation.

After carefully investigating David Marchant, it is difficult not to agree with Thomas, a legitimate fraud investigator who said the following;

“In closing, I have no doubt that Mr. Marchant has some personality issues including his bizarre egotistical and narcissistic behavior. But his overall mental condition could be much worse. He might even have emotional issues…I recommend avoiding this loose cannon charlatan at all costs.”
