There are many different types of professional permanent hair removal systems. There are fewer effective types of permanent hair removal systems for use in the home. The three most commonly used types are the following.
To understand the differences of the top three permanent hair removal systems below is a brief explanation of each.

Laser Hair Removal
Laser Hair removal is generally considered to be less evasive than electrolysis and is clinically administered by a qualified Laser Hair Removal Technician and is becoming a more popular hair removal option of permanent hair removal system for many people. It is important to note however that as Laser epilators is not certified by the FDA as a permanent hair removal system as its effectiveness is directly related to the melanin (pigmentation or colour) of the hair and skin.
In the past dark-skinned people have had mixed results with laser hair removal treatments as do very fair skinned people with very light-coloured hair. To put this in simplified terms, laser hair removal treatments work best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination for laser hair removal. But where does that leave everyone else?

There is good news however as new technology developed all of the time. New hair removal laser equipment is being produced that has the ability to effectively target dark black hair on patients with dark skin and is also effective for those who have fair skin pigment and light-coloured hair.

Laser hair removal treatments can leave the skin red and slightly swollen for a short period of time, however if you have a qualified laser technician treating you the after effects should be minimal. The process is described from painless to a slight stinging sensation however you may notice some discomfort, redness and swelling for a few days after your laser procedure. Stubborn hair growth areas may need a number of treatments to gain desired results.

Radio Frequency Hair Removal.
Another growing type of permanent hair removal system is Radio Frequency Hair Removal. It is, in essence, exactly as it sounds. By the use of a tweezers tool which hold the individual hair or by small patches applied directly to the skins surface a radio frequency is sent down the hair shaft to damage the hair follicle and stop it from producing hair. It is painless, there is no recovery time, skin redness or healing process to be concerned about.

It is a procedure you can do at home with a home radio frequency hair removal kit with the only downsides being that you do have to do it yourself, you can only treat small areas at a time making it time consuming and you may need to treat the same area repetitively especially for stubborn hair growth.

Electrolysis Hair Removal
Electrolysis hair removal is the only method approved by the FDA for permanent hair removal. It does require multiple sessions, usually 15 to 30, to achieve best possible results. Even with electrolysis, permanent hair removal results are not 100% guaranteed. It can be an expensive option with sessions of half an hour costing $35 to $50.

The method is a little more obtrusive and is not considered to be pain free, its fact it has been rated by people using this permanent hair removal system from being uncomfortable to quite painful. Electrolysis is when a fine needle is inserted next to the hair and proceeds down the hair shaft to the hair follicle and a small electric current is then activated to stop the follicle from producing hair.

Electrolysis for hair removal can be done at home but you would need to buy a home electrolysis home kit which would cost about $100 and you will need to teach someone at home how to use it for the tricky areas you cannot reach comfortably yourself. Results from home electrolysis kit vary and it may be better to consider attending a Beauty Salon or Beauty Clinic that offers this service where a qualified technician will treat you.
