Passport is your ticket to explore the world, and you will not get far from England without one. Only the queen was allowed to travel abroad without a passport (because, officially, she issued it), and with Bruit in the corner, the British population now needs a passport applications for more countries.

List of documents needed for the U.K passport application

• All documents listed below must be original, not photocopy. We often help get a copy of certified documents, but the rules are different for passport applications - you will need original documents or 'official' copies.
• But we offer translation services that begin with documents that are not written in English or Welsh.

If you were born or adopted in England before 1983, you will need:

• Your original full birth certificate, or official copy
• Or your original adoption certificate (or official copy)
• The full birth certificate must have details about your parents, as well as details about yourself. If you need to order an official copy of your birth certificate, you can do it from here. Costs will vary depending on your situation.

If you are born or adopted in England during or after 1983, you will need:

• Your original full birth certificate, or official copy
• Or your original adoption certificate (or official copy)
• You will also need one of the documents below, and above, to get your passport:
• British birth certificate or your father is full
• Certificate of registration or naturalization of their home office
• British passport owned by one parent, valid when you were born
• English passport number for one of your parents
• If you don't have the above, you will need proof of the immigration status of parents in the UK at your birth, e.g. Foreign passport belonging to one of your parents, which applies when you are born
• If you send documents related to your father, you also need to send your parents' marriage certificate.

If you are born outside of England and have a certificate or naturalization/registration, you will need:

• Naturalization or your registration certificate
• The passport you use to come to England, or a foreign passport application that you include
• You will need an original copy of the two documents above. Certificate of naturalization or registration is given to someone when they are given British citizenship. If you need a substitute, you might be able to get it from here.
